Colourtones are opaque finishes similar in appearance to paint. The coatings are pigmented conversion varnish that is catalyzed prior to application. Specific species and grades are available with Colourtone finishes including Paint Grade Hard Maple. Colourtones are not available for use over species where excessive grain patterns or characteristics are present. These species include Cherry, Hickory, Red Birch, Walnut and Mahogany.
